New Study: Small Businesses Not Updating their Websites

2010 May 3

A poll of 300 small businesses found that while 80% believe it is important to appear on the first page of Google search rankings to attract traffic, more than a third rarely or never update their website content.

In a recent survey conducted by Infoserve, they found small businesses were not updating their own website content.  So, what are the easiest ways to keep your website fresh with new content so you don’t have to do too much work? Well there are few things, you could add a news section, add a blog, add a twitter feed if you are already using twitter so that updates appear on your site. If you have a company newsletter or email newsletter you can add archived content on your website.

The key to getting found in search engines is content, and even more importantly is having new and fresh content that search engines will find. Why? Because how old a web page is used to rank how relevant a search result is to the searched word or phrase. If you go to your favorite search engine and search for your website or company name do you see new content? Or old content? You will most likely see content sorted by date as well.

If you need any more convincing visit your competitor’s websites and see what ideas they have incorporated to make sure they have fresh content on their websites.
